Camper Van / RV Vehicle Maintenance & Service Tips
- MAIN WARNING: If you have a Mercedes, Freightliner or Dodge Sprinter, go to a Mercedes dealership only with a Sprinter technician for ALL your maintenance needs you can't do well yourself! This includes oil changes, tire rotations, etc. Do not go to a Dodge, Firestone, etc. dealer no matter how trustworthy and convenient it seems at first. This is a very serious warning because by far most, but not all, other mechanics and shops will often do more harm than good and charge about the same or more than a Mercedes dealership will. If you try to go to a non-Mercedes shop, you will highly likely experience vehicle damage and theft you may or may not realize at first, much loss of time, agony and more expense in the long run.
- Beware fuel stations, particularly diesel pumps, often fail (overflow, spill, leak, etc.). Overfilling can cause damage to your vehicle's emission controls. Take pictures, ask inside for refund / report incident, document who you talked with, file a credit card chargeback or BBB complaint if you paid cash (cash not recommended for this reason). Avoid Arco. For full service or in Oregon, be sure to tell the worker not to top off.
