My Next Van Upfit

Although I'm very happy with how I built my current van and it has much sentimental value (my first professional tiny home and my dog of 14 years lived in it during the whole process of building it), someday I will replace it.

Van of Choice, so far
  • 2018-20 Mercedes Sprinter short 144"WB (19.5'), may consider front wheel drive if available in US and I decide not to tow much
  • Will consider other make if they make some great changes
  • Would like a slightly wider body, just enough where a 6'4" person could sleep sideways. That would create several more feet of living space.

What I Want in a New Van Model
  • 6'5" interior height
  • Slightly wider body so I have more room and can sleep sideways
  • Comfortable driver's position for long legs
  • Front wheel drive (if I don't plan to tow another RV)
  • Diesel engine that gets 30+ MPG
  • RV type side door, not sliding door

What Will Do Different, so far
Will be very much the same; here are the largest changes planned:
  • No major changes planned so far; very happy with current build.
  • Delete large sliding door window (only small high mount).
The reason there won't be much changed is because the first van has already been substantially changed many times to perfection or the way I like it. I originally bought it as an experimental van to virtually destroy from many experiments and modifications, but it turned out so nice, I have not been in a hurry to get rid of it to buy a new one. Also I have invested a lot into premium mechanical repairs and upgrades.
